Evercare takes an in-depth look at the health care issues facing our members and society at large. We are also committed to understanding how our innovative Care Model – providing Nurse Practitioners and Care Managers – improve the health outcomes of our members. Here are our recent studies.

Caregiving Studies
Nursing Home Study

National Studies on Caregiving
Evercare and the National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) completed the first ever, comprehensive national study to explore the lives of caregivers whose health has declined due to caregiving.

2008 Evercare Study of Hispanic Family Caregiving in the U.S.
Evercare and the National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) recently conducted the first-ever study to shed light on an important segment of family caregivers – the 8 million Hispanics in the U.S. who are caring for aging loved ones. "Evercare Study of Hispanic Family Caregiving in the U.S." (PDF 2.6 MB) provides insight to the 36% of Hispanic households who are caring for an older loved one.

"Evercare Study of Family Caregivers – What They Spend, What They Sacrifice" (PDF 1.1 MB) highlights the spending and the sacrifices that are putting caregivers' current and future well-being at risk.

Nursing Home Study

In a study published in the October 2003 Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, Dr. Robert Kane, Dean of the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, compared Evercare members with other nursing home patients in five different cities across the country. By identifying and treating acute illnesses in the nursing home setting, the Evercare approach, which focuses on personalized attention and increased patient monitoring, achieved impressive results:

  • Reduced hospitalizations by 45% with no change in mortality.
  • Effectively reduced the incidence of acute episodes in the nursing home setting
  • Reduced emergency room visits by 50% percent
  • Decreased the average length of stay in a hospital by one day
